Freewrite on"I Felt a Funeral in my Brain"(p.60)Perrine

By simply reading the title of this poem I believed the poem to involve some individual's struggle in comprehending some complex idea. Upon further observation and analyzing of the text, I realized that this was not the case. Instead, it would be more accurate to describe it as an individual's overwhelming feelings concluding with a mental breakdown. The elements of a funeral being described also led me to believe it was something much more emotional than just not being able to understand some foreign idea.

Euphoric Poetry

Poetry is not always just descriptions of flowers, rainbows, butterflies, and the like. These are all nice and all but this belief that turns away many "masculine" or manly individuals is incredibly erroneous. I do not share the same belief and am not sexist, at least to my own knowledge, and see what poetry is, could be, and will continue to be as time unfolds. My initial opinions on poetry were immediate rejections at the idea of having to think critically in order to understand what the author is trying to express in words. Now, I simply read poetry to enjoy the experience that it conveys and illustrates. If I do not understand what the poem attempts to instill in the reader then I simply make my own interpretation of the poem and ride along my own story, sort of like a dream.
